Football is being used to teach Stockport School children about the effects of racism and bullying.

And once again it's County who are at the forefront of this worthy initiative.

Last week 60 schoolchildren were invited to come along and meet County players at our Manor Farm training ground to hear about efforts to kick racism out of the game.

All the kids were treated to lunch before each were presented with a special County 'Goody Bag' that contained, amongst other souvenirs, the Hatters famous Blue & White scarf.

Kick Racism

After a busy autograph session with the County players the pupils then watched a presentation from the 'Show Racism the Red Card Campaign'.

After the programme Ash Williams and Gaz Owen told the kids about their experiences in a question and answer session which also featured ex-Sunderland Captain Gary Bennett and Andrew Webb, the Corporate Director of Stockport Children and Young People's Directorate.

Pete Liggins from our media partners Pure 107.8FM was there and he spoke to Red Card's Gavin Sutherland, Gary Bennett. To listen to Pete's report click here.

Pete also spoke to some of the pupils and teachers who took part in the event. To listen to his report click here.

After the event Gavin wrote to the club's media department: Thank you for all your help in organising the event.

"It was a great success for us and we are confident that with the combination of the DVD and the excellent question and answer session that followed, the audience were presented with aa very positive anti-racist message.

"I think that events like the one at County can have a big impact on the attitudes of the young people who attend and we hope these events reinforce the work they undertake in their schools.

"Thank you once again for your support."
