Gareth signed a two-year deal during the summer following a really successful season-long loan the previous term.
He was so influential as a loanee that he was made captain for the second half of that season and he also won the club's Player of the Year award.
Gareth started his career with his hometown club, Stoke City. Opportunities with the Potters were limited, though, and he was loaned out to Oldham Athletic and then to Torquay United.
After a second successful loan spell at Oldham he signed permanent terms with them before the 2005-06 season.
