BOSS NOT SURPRISED
Hatters boss Jim Gannon has not been surprised to read that some of the Premiership's top teams are apparently keen to snap up in-form teenager Tommy Rowe.
Amazingly, some 60 scouts were in attendance at County's home game against Bury on Saturday, and it was then reported in a morning tabloid yesterday [Tues] that London giants Arsenal and Tottenham were 'battling it out' to secure 'wonderkid'
Gannon, who as yet has received no contact from the Emirates Stadium or White Hart Lane, said: "I was surprised to read about the interest in Tommy in a national newspaper. That wasn't the work of an agent.
"However, when you've got such a young and successful team like ours at the moment then the players are bound to attract a lot of attention.
"We do have a lot of high quality players at Stockport, and when teenagers start scoring hat-tricks [as Rowe did at Rotherham last Tuesday night] then it's only natural that there will be speculation.
"We're unlikely to receive any phone calls at this stage, but it wouldn't surprise me if there was more interest at the end of the season."
Rowe has certainly caught County fans' eyes lately thanks to his performances and four goals in the last three games, but the lad himself is taking everything in his stride.
Gannon added: "Tommy is very level-headed, with a sound personality to go with it. It's a nice compliment for him, but any speculation won't affect him. He'll just get on with doing his work. I've said many times before that Tommy has got a great future in the game. I just hope he fulfils his enormous potential."
Rowe will probably take his place in County's starting line-up again this Saturday at struggling Accrington, but goalkeeper Conrad Logan won't as Hatters chiefs have opted not to appeal against his red card - and subsequent one-match ban - picked up during last weekend's home defeat against Bury.
Gannon wouldn't be drawn on whether transfer-listed 'keeper Chris Adamson would get the nod this weekend, but he is still busy trying to strengthen his squad.
The County boss revealed that he is hopeful that one or two new faces could be drafted by the weekend, providing the necessary finances are made available.
On the injury front, Jim McNulty looks likely to be out for around four to five weeks after badly twisting his ankle on Saturday, while Michael Raynes [hamstring] could be out for a couple of weeks.
Matty McNeil [hernia] and David Poole [shin] will return to training next week, but
Dominic Blizzard and Anthony Pilkington are now fully fit again and would have been available last night, had the home clash against Mansfield not been postponed due to a frozen pitch.
This week's Stockport Express is now on sale, priced 44p.
