County put the nightmare of Saturday firmly behind them with a goal blitz at Brunton Park to progress to the Semi-Final of the Johnstones Paint Trophy.

The first chance of the game came when Keith Briggs put a right-footed shot in from the centre of the penalty area that was tipped around the post by Carlisle keeper, Keiran Westwood. Moments later Jeff Smith put a cross in for Danny Graham whose left-footed shot from the left side of the six-yard box just missed

Jeff Smith was again involved when he lobbed the ball from 25 yards out. The ball was parried and then saved by Conrad Logan. Danny Carlton had a shot from the centre of the penalty area that went just over the bar minutes later.

Keith Briggs had a speculative attempt for County from 25 yards out moments later, but it was never going to trouble Westwood.

Former County player, Marc Bridge-Wilkinson took a corner for Carlisle that was met at the near post by Danny Carlton whose right-footed shot  from inside the area went just over the bar.

At the other end, a long Logan goal kick found Dickinson who won a flick on for Proudlock. The popular striker's effort bounced to safety off the outside of the post.

Second Half

A foul by Matty McNeil on Danny Graham saw the home side awarded a free kick that was drilled right-footed by Marc Bridge-Wilkinson from nearly 40  yards out. The ball was blocked by Paul Turnbull and went out for a corner. Moments later the former County man, Marc Bridge-Wilkinson was again involved when his left-footed shot from the left hand side of penalty area was parried by Conrad Logan.

Despite a good start from the home side, County were ahead when Adam Proudlock's shot from the centre of penalty hit the back of the net  to send the fantastic away fans into delirium!

A cross by Smith picked out Danny Graham but his header from 12 yards hit the post shortly after the goal; Bridge-Wilkinson's 30 yard shot moments later went just over the bar.

County were really under the cosh after the goal, as the home side tried to hide their blushes. Bridge-Wilkinson had another attempt on the 64th minute when his wicked volley went just over the bar.

Incredibly, though, County were 2-0 up on the 66th minute when McNeil headed home from a Greg Tansey's corner at the far post

The Hatters were further ahead when Anthony Elding thumped the ball home from inside the area, to leave the home side shell-shocked.

After the disppointment of Saturday, no one would have predicted this. Perhaps Wembley beckons afterall.
