The corresponding fixture last year had seen county kick start their season with a 5-2 victory. Much of the same today would have been welcome.
Jim Gannon shuffled his pack in an attempt to end County's six-game winless run.
Anthony Elding, Adam Griffin and Dominic Blizzard returned to the starting line-up in place of the injured Anthony Pilkington, Gary Dicker and David Poole who both dropped to the bench.
Wrexham included former Hatters loanee, Anthony Williams, in goal.
The first attempt of the game fell to Adam Griffin who, won the ball in the area and shot at the keeper first time. Former County man, Anthony Williams was equal to it.At the other end Wrexham piled on the pressure as they tried to get themselves off the bottom of the table. County struggled to clear their ranks in a tense opening ten.
The best chance of the opening exchanges fell to Adam Proudlock, though, when he dived in to head a good cross from Adam Griffin, but his effort went agonisingly wide.
Moments later Proudlock headed just over from a Paul Tierney cross, having looked easier to score.
On the 17th minute James Smith made a run from his own half into the area, finding the feet of Adam Griffin, but the popular winger could only shoot wide.
Wrexham were ahead on the 26th when Conrad Logan misjudged a cross from the left allowing Marc Williams to head into an empty net.
County were on level terms just four minutes later when Anthony Elding volleyed the ball home from outside the area.
Elding very nearly made it two with a flick following a County corner, this time though it went just wide.
The first half ended in controversy with Griffin and Wrexham player, Spann down the referee whistled for half time, with County in the process of creating a good chance.
Second Half
A mix up between Ashley Williams and Conrad Logan nearly allowed Marc Williams in for his second of the game. Luckily for county the Welshman couldn't get to the ball.
County had strong appeals for a penalty turned down when Matty McNeil was felled in the area.
Logan then redeemed himself for his earlier fumbles when he went to ground to block a shot from Williams.

County were finally ahead on the 66th minute when Dominic Blizzard headed home at the far post from Tierney's corner.
It was nearly three when Adam Proudlock was cynically challenged on the edge of the area. Tierney's curling free kick wasn't far away.
At the other end the away side tried desperately to get an equaliser, Steve Evans went closest with a curling shot..
A fantastic cross from Griffin picked out Elding in the dying moments. However, the number nine blazed the ball over the bar.
