Match Report

Jim Gannon was forced to make six changes following an injury-crisis. That meant a recall for Michael Rose, Liam Dickinson, Greg Tansey and Michael Malcolm.

The biggest surprise of the night saw the youth captain, Gianluca Havern called up to the bench.

Chester boss Mark Wright included new loan signing Lee Steele in the home side line-up.

It was one-way traffic for the first ten minutes, with the defence looking solid and the forward line looking sharp. Mark Robinson, a goalscorer on Saturday, created the first chance of the game when his 30 yard shot was well collected by John Danby. Tansey soon followed with a similar attempt.

On form Ashley Williams floated a good free-kick into the box on the 11th minute mark that fell to Liam Dickinson. The former Woodley man passed the ball to Michael Malcolm who lost possesion and the chance went begging.

Chester created a good counter attack on the 13th minute when Gregg Blundell put a shot in from 12 yards out but it went just wide of the post. A goal though, would have been unjust.

The next chance came for County on the 20th minute mark when David Poole put in a 20 yard volley, that was well caught by John Danby.

At the other end, the physical Sean Hessey drilled a 25 yard shot into the box that was turned round the post by County keeper James Spencer.

Liam Dickinson, a hero on our last visit seemed to be a figure of hate from the Chester side. David Artell fouled the big man on the edge of the area, resulting in a County free-kick. Moments later he was fouled by Bolland, that resulted in the first booking of the game.

At the other end Chester were gifted a free-kick when Allen fouled Hand. Luckily for the Hatters, though, Laurence Wilson wasted the opportunity.

GOAL! Chester, against the run of play, found themselves in front when on the 43rd minute Jamie Hand scored a sloppy goal from the edge of the penalty area after the County defence twice failed to clear their lines.

In the dying moments of the first half County were given the chance to equalise when Liam Dickinson was again fouled on the edge of the area. Michael Rose's free kick was on target, but was well-saved by Danby.

Second Half

County started the second half in the same vein as the first, when Liam Dickinson went agonisingly close to putting the away side back into the game.

Moments later County were denied a clear cut penalty when Michael Malcolm was bundled over in the box following a challenge similar to Rob Clare's on Saturday. The Assistant Referee raised his flag-only to give offside!

Some spectacular defending by Mark Robinson denied Gregg Blundell a good chance to score at the other end, when he was fed through by Laurence Wilson.

An unucky Liam Dickinson went agonisingly wide when his 20 shot skipped past the far post. It was to be his last contribution of the game.

GOAL! It was game over when Chester scored a second late on following a Gregg Blundell shot from the edge of the area. Spencer looked extremely disappointed.

GOAL! The scoreline became unflattering just seconds later when Wilson was fed the ball by Walters and scored home from 8 yards.

There was a moment of controversy late on when Tes Bramble had his nose broken in the dying moments. The challenge went unpunished by the referee, resulting in a furious Jim Gannon.

Yellow Cards:

Chester: Bolland 31, Artell 44

Man of the Match: Rob Clare: another impressive performance from the former England Under-20 skipper.
