County welcomed back all three of their loan players unable to play in last Saturday's FA Cup victory at Exeter.
And all three, John Ruddy, Tony Kane and David Poole made an immediate return to the starting eleven for a County side chasing the victory that would see them move to within a point of the League 2 play-off zone.
Keith Briggs who missed last week's win with a groin strain was passed fit but had to settle for a place on the bench.
Another loanee, Stephen Gleeson, so impressive at Exeter, kept his place in midfield.
First chance of the game, was a rather speculative shot from Tes Bramble that floated well wide of the left hand post.
The second chance again fell to County when Adam Le Fondre was fed the ball by Taylor and the diminutive forwards one on one was well saved by Danby.
County continued to pile on the pressure and looked well organised, communicating well. Taylor, as ever was a tower of strength in the middle.
One touch football sent County on their way on the 16th minute when Tony Kane found Taylor in the middle of the park and he fed the ball out to Griffin who placed a delightful ball to the feet of Bramble. The Chester keeper was equal to the big mans advances though, and his attempt to win the ball, simply saw his name noted for the wrong reasons.
GOAL! County were ahead on the 26th minute when David Poole converted at the far post with a wonderful first time volley following a cross by Jason Taylor.
The tireless Poole nearly orchestrated a second when he found Bramble to his right, but the big number nine shot high and wide.
Chester created their first real chance of the game when Lee Steele's powerless header from 6 yards was comfortably saved by Ruddy.
As the first half progressed Chester created a number of chances, but the well organised County defence and the safe hands of Ruddy denied Chester a way back into the game.
The second half started as the first ended, with County under the cosh. County had John Ruddy to thank on the 51st minute when he punched a ball clear, following a scramble in the box.
Chester went close again on the 58th minute when Lee Steele was released in the box but his high shot was gathered by Ruddy.
GOAL! Chester to their credit grabbed an equaliser on the 62nd minute when Jonathan Walters low shot from 6 yards out made the scores level.
Chester nearly grabbed a second moments later when Walters got a good head in at the far post, but his effort was well blocked by Ruddy.
At the other end David Pooles deep cross caused some problems for the Chester defence, but Danby was equal to it.
Moments later some good football between Bramble and Poole created a good opening for Briggs, but the usually dependable vice-skipper shot high and wide.
Chester went desperately close again on the 71st minute when Lee Steeles low shot from the edge of the area looked to be heading for the bottom corner, thankfully though it floated just wide.
County were desperately unlucky not to have regained the lead on the 78th minute when David Poole ran into the box and found Bramble, but Danby was equal to it.
County started to regain some tempo now, and they created a number of good chances. The most notable saw Poole and Gleeson combine to produce a good ball for Proudlock, whose shot went just wide.
In the end it was a hard earned point for both sides, stretching County's unbeaten league run to 6 matches.
