Match Report

County notched 360 minutes withut conceding a league goal, as they grabbed a late winner at The Racecourse through substitute Liam Dickinson.

Jim Gannon made one change from the side that did so well against Wycombe on Saturday. The exhausted Anthony Pilkington was replaced by Adam Griffin. Tony Dinning meanwhile, returned to the bench following his injury lay-off.

Wrexham included former County man, Michael Ingham along with summer target, Ryan Valentine. Recent signing Cherno Samba was also on the bench.

The first shot in anger fell to Mark Williams whose 12 yard effort went high and wide, having initially got on the end of a Matty Done pass, having dispossed Rob Clare. Wrexham, taking the game by the horns had another shot when Lee Mcevilly launched a blistering shot from inside the area. Thankully for County it went just over the bar.

County were under the cosh now and Wayne Hennesey had to be at is best to gather a Chris Llewellyn shot-cum-cross on the 10 minute mark.

County's best chance saw David Poole gather the ball wide on the right, his cross found Anthony Elding but the usually dependable striker could not control the ball and the chance went begging.

At the other end Lee McEvilly burst into the box and it took a full stretch Hennessey to deny The Dragon's a just opening goal.

A speculative long range shot from David Poole took a simple save from Michael Ingham, in the one highlight of a rather drab opening 45 for the away side.

County just couldn't get into this one, and they had to rely ona punch by Hennessey and then a goal line clearance from Owen to keep the cleansheet in tact.

Moments after this Mark Williams second touch let him down, as Wrexham searched for an opening. The midfielder was released in the box and a good volley would have seen The Hatter's trail.

County's first real attempt on goal came on the 39th minute mark when David Poole burst into the box, but his low shot bounced just wide of the far near post.

Second Half

County went agonsingly wide when Anthony Elding's headed effort went just wide, following a trademark Michael Rose free-kick.

At the other end, Paul Mitchell's headed attempt from a corner ball, took a good Hennessey stretch to deny The Dragon's, as the home fans frustration started to boil over.

A mistake by Michael Rose allowd Llewelyn in on goal, but the former Norwich striker's shot went high and wide.

County were unfortunate not to get their noses in front when substitute Anthony Pilkington fed the ball through to Anthony Elding. However the former Boston man couldn't control the ball and Wrexham cleared the danger.

McEvilly, a danger all night struck a low powerful drive on the 80th minute mark but thankfully for County it went just wide.

It took a wonderful save from Michael Ingham to deny Jason Taylor with his turn and volley. Anthony Elding's volley glanced just wide.

County's unbeaten run looked to be at an end when Done beat Clare for pace, he crossed to Jamie Reed but the Dragon's midfielder went just wide of the post. Reed went agonisingly close seconds later when he gathered the ball in the area. However he lost his footing and County cleared the danger.

County grabbed a somewhat unjust winner through Liam Dickinson late on to the delight of the magnificent away fans, as the game had seemingly been reaching a goalless stalemate.
