Ashley Williams is in line for an immediate recall in Tuesday night's promotion clash against Chesterfield.

But, after playing a practice game last Saturday, and a full 90 minutes at Manor Farm today, (Jan 25), Jim Gannon is thinking of throwing the defender right into the thick of the action when the high-flying Spireites, including in-form strikers Jack Lester and Jamie Ward, visit SK3.

Speaking to stockportcounty.com the County boss said: "He's got every chance. He's a fantastic athlete and you wouldn't think he's been out for so long.


"He cruises across the pitch, he's got a great turn of pace and he's physically competitive in the air


"He's got everything that you want from a centre-half physically, and he's far superior to most centre-halves at this level in terms of his stamina and his speed and speed endurance and he's agility.


"He's in great shape."
