Stockport County could be without Ashley Williams for at least six weeks.

On the day the Hatters influential skipper was being scouted by Welsh coach Dean Saunders he limped out of the Peterborough game just before the interval with what appeared to be a serious knee injury.

Speaking to stockportcounty.com afterwards, a dismayed Hatters boss, Jim Gannon, said: "We won't know until Monday but it looks like Ash has a ruptured medial ligament and we just hope that's all it is and his cruciate is not affected because he's been one of our outstanding players.

"It's come at a cruel time for him with a potential international call up beckoning in a few weeks.

"It was a huge loss today and it will be a huge loss over the coming weeks. If it is a ruptured ligament he could be out of action for six weeks, maybe more."
