Against a team from two divisions above them, Jim Gannon felt his County side acquitted themselves very well in Saturday's 2-2 draw with Hull City at Edgeley Park.

The Hatters came from behind on two occasions, thanks to goals from Adam Griffin and Matty McNeil, to earn a credible draw in their first home pre-season game.

Gannon told stockportcounty.com: "I think we had the better in terms of chances and I couldn't believe we only scored two goals really.

"Hull have got a tremendous amount of quality, including a number of internationals, right across the park.

"It was a good challenge for our lads but we acquitted ourselves very well and I'm really pleased with the performance and the squad we've accumulated now.

"We looked like a team, we looked like a squad and we were up against a tough team but we were more than a match for them."
