Stockport County Football in the Community has targeted 100 local primary schools to enter this season's Football League Community Cup.

The popular competition, organised in partnership with the Football League, provides local boys and girls with the chance to emulate Queensgate Primary School from Bramhall who represented County at Wembley and won the trophy before last season's League 2 Play-off Final.

County's Community Officer, Mike Smith, said: "The competition gives Stockport children the chance to play at Edgeley Park and even Wembley.

"Queensgate had a fantastic day out at Wembley last year and it would be terrific if another Stockport school follows in their footsteps this year."

Qualifying matches for the 6-a-side competition, open to boys and girls under-11, takes place early next year with the two finalists then invited to play a game at Edgeley Park for the right to represent County.

A series of regional games against other clubs will follow to determine the Wembley finalists.

County are also launching the Football League Community Girls Cup.

Now in its third year, the competition, open to girls under-13, runs along similar lines to the under-11 competition, with the national final staged at Wembley ahead of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy Final in April.
