COUNTY SONGS

Stockport County supporters claim to have more original songs than any other team in Great Britain ... and it's hard to argue against them!
A Swaying Mass of Humanity, a booklet containing 100 County favourites, spanning four decades, was so successful that the fans took to the recording studio to release Songs of the Cheadle End, a unique CD featuring no less than 46 of the best Hatters' hits.
The major influence on the songwriters was, undoubtedly, the old Cheadle End. The stand, built with timber and corrugated tin, contained just fourteen steps, yet it regularly housed 3,000 County fanatics, packed-in, sardine fashion, during the halcyon GO GO GO COUNTY era of the mid-60s.
Made all-seater in 1967 - 22 years before Lord Justice Taylor's recommendations following the Hillsborough disaster, and demolished soon after the tragic fire at Valley Parade, Bradford, in 1985, a new Cheadle End was officially opened in July 1995.
The magnificent 5,000-seater structure, containing 5-star conference and banqueting facilities, remains an essential factor in the remarkable progress made by the club over previous years.
And the inhabitants still provide terrific vocal backing for the team, just as they did some 35 years ago in the old timber and corrugated tin structure.
